Introduction to Artist’s Books and Zines

$ 95.00$ 170.63

 Artist books and zines combine visual art with the craft of bookbinding as either single works of art or in multiples. In this class we will explore the variety of unique qualities books and zines  offer as a creative medium both aesthetically and conceptually.

You will develop a base of skills in bookbinding, formatting and layout approaches to be integrated with your individual artistic background. Art books create an intimate, one on one experience with the reader and are a great way to display artwork that is personal, interactive, concept based, abstract or figurative.

Your art discipline can be integrated into book format – painters, photographers, text- poetry, short stories, collage are all welcome!

You will leave with models of book structures such as pamphlet and Japanese stab binding as well as an understanding of how to layout and impose your images in preparation for printing. You will leave with a model of your book project and the knowledge you need to edition your project as well as the resources to lay the groundwork for future artist book projects.
