Intermediate Papermaking builds on the foundation of our beginner level, Introduction to Papermaking Intensive. This class offers a more in depth fibre exploration. Participants will learn how to make paper with more advanced level pulps such as flax, hemp and over-beaten (finer) abaca. These fibres produce a range of papers with potential to be thin but strong, or thick and soft, and will allow for play in transparency. Students will be taught how to adjust their technique in sheet forming and couching (transferring of sheet to post) to accommodate more challenging pulps. In addition, we will explore using over beaten pulps in a Nepalese style papermaking and large format sheet pulling.

Participants will leave the workshop with 20 - 30 sheets of handmade paper, ranging in fibres, thicknesses, softness and hardness, and size.
